What are collagraphs and etchings?

Collagraphs are prints taken from a collage. The collage plate has to be sealed with a coat of diluted PVA glue and then a coat of acrylic varnish  and left to dry for several hours. Ink is then applied. Damp paper is placed over the plate and it is passed through the press – creating the print.

Etchings are prints taken from an etched metal plate. The copper, steel, aluminium or zinc plate, is inked and has damp paper placed over it and is then passed through a press – creating the print.
